Speaker 1:

Ding, ding, ding. Okay, okay so.

Speaker 2:

Don't mind me, my ankle itches. And you seem to be going like this because my ankle itches Okay.

Speaker 1:

I think it's just old age.

Speaker 2:

It probably is old age, but I got tickled my throat, so if I cough, it's whatever.

Speaker 1:

I thought I'm supposed to be the sick one.

Speaker 2:

You internally are sick.

Speaker 1:

I am.

Speaker 2:

I think so.

Speaker 1:

Okay.

Speaker 2:

I mean, I don't know When's your first scan. I think it's June, june, I thought it was every three months. No, it's every six months. I thought for the first year it was every three months.

Speaker 1:

Oh, first several six months.

Speaker 2:

June, that's crazy. Yeah, that's crazy. Okay, june, it is.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, it's like June of the 11th or something, I don't know.

Speaker 2:

Did you print me any notes for tonight?

Speaker 1:

No.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

I guess I didn't realize you needed notes.

Speaker 2:

I really don't, because I can write down notes.

Speaker 1:

Well, I kind of forgot that I didn't print them last time. I thought I printed everything but I didn't, so which I should remember that, because nobody had notes last week.

Speaker 2:

We didn't.

Speaker 1:

So I should have known that.

Speaker 2:

We did not, sounds oh Anything new and exciting.

Speaker 1:

No, I don't think so.

Speaker 2:

I know right, not much going on. It's been a quiet week for us, which is good. Quiet is good, quiet can be good. Sometimes it's nice to be able to sit back and reflect on a week, rather than to not be able to breathe. Some weeks I feel like we can't even breathe. Then we have to rush through life. Yeah, calm, yeah, yeah. Nothing I can say. Our world's been calm, our weather's not been calm.

Speaker 2:

Oh the weather's been crazy. The weather has been very crazy. I think we've had all four seasons in one day, the other day, Definitely in the last couple of days. Yeah, it's been crazy, especially when you're trying to train a puppy. I don't like to go outside. I've made it very clear to a lot of people that I do not like to go outside in the cold. Since I am training this puppy, I am outside in the cold a lot, so it's not been fun.

Speaker 1:

I did do something exciting.

Speaker 2:

You did.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

Don't even tell me it was a chainsaw.

Speaker 1:

Yes.

Speaker 2:

You're not going to talk about chainsaw.

Speaker 1:

I made a custom muffler for Paige's chainsaw.

Speaker 2:

Paige is a very, very lucky.

Speaker 1:

She is so lucky.

Speaker 2:

The gifts that you get her.

Speaker 1:

I just never Words, can't even put it into.

Speaker 2:

I'm sure Was she super thrilled about this. Was she like?

Speaker 1:

You should have seen her face.

Speaker 2:

Oh really, yeah, it looked just like it always does.

Speaker 1:

Just completely unimpressed.

Speaker 2:

Yep, we get this video and it's like, look what I got, look what I did for Paige, and I'm like, what is this? Yeah, yeah.

Speaker 1:

She did say that if it cuts a lot better then she'll be excited, but she wasn't impressed with the sound.

Speaker 2:

She wanted you to sharpen the blade.

Speaker 1:

Well, no, it's sharp. Okay, I always keep it sharp, but yeah, not at all.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

She said she'll be more impressed if it cuts better. We'll see, we haven't actually put it in wood yet, so it's so funny.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I love Paige. I, it is the same.

Speaker 1:

Well, here's the story about the whole chainsaw thing. So for our fifth year anniversary, the classic gift is wood.

Speaker 2:

Yes.

Speaker 1:

And I'm like, well, what's better for wood than a chainsaw, right? So I bought her a chainsaw for her anniversary. She actually liked the gift oh, I'm sure she did. But she had one stipulation Nobody else was allowed to use the chainsaw.

Speaker 2:

Oh yeah.

Speaker 1:

So I literally had to get a sharpie out and write her name on it in market, so it's, it's her, it is Paige's chainsaw. It's her personal chainsaw, nobody else can use it.

Speaker 2:

Right.

Speaker 1:

I. I don't know if I've ever actually used it, unless I was tuning it or something.

Speaker 2:

I was at your plan with the last night, have you?

Speaker 1:

put this that's just tuning it and stuff, but normally no, it's. It's her saw, so she was. She was very excited.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I bet.

Speaker 1:

She was more excited about the saw than the muffler.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and that was like did he? Did he need to use like a welder or something? Did he have like a new welder he had? I'm like I have no idea why he did this. I I have no idea why he did it.

Speaker 1:

You probably don't realize that I'm like into porting souls and all kinds of stuff To report. Do some modifications, make them go faster, or you do it, you do it. That reminds me.

Speaker 2:

So that's a dad. Oh, so crazy. Okay, all right, we got Bible study tonight.

Speaker 1:

Sure Are we in Hebrews the more power of prayer and Christ. Yes, yes, we're still in Hebrews.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, I don't know. I have no notes.

Speaker 1:

I have part of them. Um, yes, we are. We are going to go on another brief tangent.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

Um so, just as a reminder of where we're at, we're technically covering Hebrews 11, 6.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

Um, that's. We've been on Hebrews 11, 6 for, I don't know, three months, two months. I'm going to say two, Two months.

Speaker 2:

So it feels like three, though, because you had two, two weeks where you did your.

Speaker 1:

Yeah.

Speaker 2:

Okay, anyhow.

Speaker 1:

Where I released those in there too. But um, and actually the second one is actually coming into play too, but so I'm going to read. I'm going to start off by reading verse six again, because it's been so long since we've read Hebrews 11, 6. That's what.

Speaker 2:

Nothing, mom.

Speaker 1:

That, um, I need to. I think I need to remind us where we're at. Then I am going to go to another slight tangent, and then we'll continue on.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

So Hebrews 11, 6 reads and without faith, it is impossible to please him. For whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. So we've been really focusing hard on this idea of drawing near to God and that's where we've been spending most of our time here the last several weeks. And we covered Hebrews oh what was it? Hebrews seven, 11 through 28,. Hebrews seven, one through four.

Speaker 1:

And we've been really looking at how Jesus like, like we as humans. We are sinful, we are impure, we are, we are not qualified, we are more the same words I don't, I can't think of any more words Um, but we are unclean, we cannot go straight to God, right, we do not have that ability because of our sinfulness, because of just the way we are. We are just a corrupt people, a corrupt nation. So we don't have the ability to go straight to God. No-transcript. In order for us to have access to God, god sent us Jesus right in Jesus. Well, I got a sneeze coming on. See if I make it go away.

Speaker 2:

Like my nose. It's just too. I don't know.

Speaker 1:

Hey. So what's I saying? God gave us Jesus, I gave us Jesus right for really good reasons.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

I just don't know what they are.

Speaker 2:

Yes, you do I think God sent Jesus to walk with us, to teach us, to guide us, and then he sent him to the cross to die for our sins.

Speaker 1:

Yes, and in this particular thing that we're focusing on right, focusing on right now, is that through that sacrifice on the cross, jesus, in the way he lived his life, like everything about Jesus, made him the perfect high priest. Right, right, and because this also goes back to what we kind of talked about, the beginning of Hebrew 7, I think, was 11, where the the law was Was imperfect. It was. There's no way to have perfection through the law. That's not to say that the structure of the law was Completely broken, because let's remember who made the law, who gave Moses the law?

Speaker 2:

right.

Speaker 1:

God Set up the structure of the law. Yes what God makes is perfect, mm-hmm. We see none in Genesis. Yes, whenever God created the world, he created everything in the world. He said it was very good.

Speaker 2:

Mm-hmm.

Speaker 1:

It was perfect right. But whenever you take something perfect that God creates and you put it into the hands of man who is corrupt and sinful, we ruin everything. Yeah, to put it quite simply, and this goes back to Adam and Eve yes they were put in the garden, the perfect garden in a perfect world. They had one rule right. One rule do not eat the fruit of this one tree. And they couldn't do it. And temptation. Yeah so.

Speaker 2:

And we are human, we are all tempted.

Speaker 1:

Yes, we are all tempted, we are all sinful. Yes, we all are corrupt in Because of the devil, in the evil, in this world, but let's remember that Jesus also came and lived in this world.

Speaker 1:

Yes and he was tempted and People attempted to corrupt him and they tested him and they they tried to get him to the sin and they try to do all these things to him. He walked through all that and, like we were saying, the law is imperfect but Jesus fulfilled the law. Mm-hmm, jesus said himself he didn't come to abolish the law. He came to fulfill the law and so that's what he did, right. And because he came and he filled the law exactly the way God designed it to be Fulfilled, the way people were designed to live their lives. And then he went to the cross, innocent, and died on the cross for our sins and shed his blood for our sins, right, washing us clean. That is why he makes the perfect high priest.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and that's kind of what we were looking at going back through Hebrew 7, and I don't even know where else we covered right but that's the thing we're trying to highlight, and I know we've already covered a lot, but there's still one more verse that I Want to look at and and also something else that we covered Quite a bit, was this whole concept of the fact that Jesus came in the order of much. Is it egg? So, like we said, god created the law, god created the structure. Yes, that was the law. So therefore, he created the structure. That were the 12 tribes of Israel. You know that was all designed by God, and one of those tribes, specifically, was a tribe of priests. Yes, it was. That was the Levites. Yep, but God didn't send Jesus as a Levi. No, nope, he sent Jesus as as coming from the tribe of Judah. So that is why Jesus is in the order of much is the deck, because he is a King that's also a priest. That is not from the order of Levi.

Speaker 2:

Mm-hmm.

Speaker 1:

So we also cover that Quite a bit. So this next verse on the cover is Hebrews 10, 19 through 22,. So we're still in Hebrews, and I just really love the way this is written. So this reads Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new in living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart and full assurance of faith, with our heart sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Now, to me, that is extremely powerful. And and let's just go ahead and break this down, so verse 19. Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, so we talked about this too. You know how God would be in the Holy of Holies?

Speaker 1:

Yes, and that, upon the death of Jesus, the curtain that separated the holy part of the temple from the Holy of Holies, that nobody could go into except for one priest, once a year, right, right, that curtain was torn in two Mm-hmm and that kind of eliminated that separation between us and the holy Holies, which it would be God, but at the same time, like we're saying before, how the fact we're sinful where we're corrupt, we're impure, we can't still, we still just can't go and walk to the holy Holies, we still Can't approach God in our state of sinfulness.

Speaker 1:

But again, that's why Jesus went to the cross pure, clean, no sin, even though he lived with sinners. He was perfect and went to the cross and died for our sins. So it's through Jesus that we can be Purified, we can be cleansed, we can have our sins washed away. And it's through Jesus that we do have access. And that's what this is talking about, the fact that we have the confidence To enter the holy places, so we have the confidence to go before God before we have Jesus with us.

Speaker 1:

Yes, yeah, by the blood of Jesus, yes, because of his death on the cross, because of his, his cleansing, his blood washing away our sins, we have that confidence that we can go to God verse 20 by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain that is through his flesh. So again, this is mentioning that curtain. So it's like what was talking about in verse 19, that curtain being torn. It's through that curtain and that curtain is through Jesus's flesh. So they're making a correlation between this curtain that was torn.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm in Jesus. Jesus and his flesh, his body that was broken on the cross Through his death. So they're putting these two together. So it's through the death of Jesus that we have access to God. So, again, this is saying more of the same things now, by this new and living way that he opened for us.

Speaker 1:

Remember how we talked about the fact that whenever a new priest or a new high priest comes into power, so to speak, with a new priest comes a new law. And Well, this new Priest, or that, this new and living way that is being mentioned here, this is referring to the new covenant that is coming along with Jesus as our new high priest. So, through the death of Jesus, through the life that he lived in the fact that he was resurrected and came back from the dead, proving that he was God, he became a new high priest. And it's through all of that and him being appointed the high priest that we have a new law. But in our case, it's not necessarily a new law, it's more of a new covenant, and it is covenant of grace instead of the covenant of law that we're leaving. So that is what is being referred to by the new and living way, verse 21.

Speaker 1:

Anyways, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, this is pretty straightforward. Let's just refer to the fact that Jesus is our high priest. There's really no other way of saying that. Verse 22 let us draw near with a true heart, in full assurance of faith, with our heart sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. So this again, this is what we've been hammering on for the last however many weeks is this idea of drawing Near to God?

Speaker 1:

Yeah and that's where we're still at. And this is saying let us draw near with a true heart. Well, what does he mean by true heart? What is a true heart? And a true heart is simply a heart that is submissive to God. So you are surrendering, surrendering yourself to God. You have that humble heart, you have the humble spirit really could apply all of the Beatitudes in the situation. So if you're living your life in that, in the way that the Beatitudes teach you to live your life, that could be considered having a true heart. So where was I with a true heart, in full assurance of faith? We've already talked about this. Well, what is assurance? Assurance is confidence, and what is faith? Faith is believing without see. So having assurance of faith is having that confidence that, even though we don't see in God or Jesus in our daily lives, we have that confidence. We have that trust that they are, or that God is who he says he is and he is fulfilling his, his Sort of looking for his promises.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 1:

That he made to us through the Bible right.

Speaker 1:

That he is doing that for us and we have that trust and that confidence that that is what is actually happening, that those promises will be fulfilled, and in fact that's the reason why we're even in Hebrews here, as if I ever get over first six and actually get move on to the other characters of Hebrews, hebrews 11. That's why all these people are mentioned. That's why Noah's mentioned Enoch, abraham Isaac, like all these other Characters are mentioned. The main reason they're mentioned is because they acted in a way Through their lives. They they did something or multiple things, that they were doing it because they were led to do it by God.

Speaker 1:

Mm-hmm but they never seen it come to fruition. So like let's just take Abraham for example, even though I know I'll be covering this again whenever we get to Abraham One of the biggest things Abraham did was I mean, as far as faith goes and fulfilling, doing things even though he didn't see it come to fruition is God told him to go to the Promised Land. Well, they never inherited that land during Abraham's life it was generations later but yet he still obeyed God, he still did what God told him to do, what he felt led to do, even though it never came to fruition. So, all the characters of the Old Testament, if you look at them through that lens of how?

Speaker 1:

they lived their lives and how they stayed faithful even through trials and hard times, even though they may not have seen the promises made directly to them come true. Those promises still came true generations later. So that is why all these people are mentioned in Hebrews 11. I think I'm somewhere. It's 22, ain't I? So, yes, heart in full assurance of faith, with our heart sprinkled clean from an evil conscience. There's debate on what this means. It could be the fact that the blood of Jesus, going back to the whole idea of sacrifices, back in the days of the Israelites in the Old Testament, they believed that the blood of the animals, the sacrifices they were making, sprinkling that blood, would cleanse, even though there was no cleansing power in blood. But the blood of Christ does have cleansing power. It washed away sins, rather, because we know that the animals didn't have cleansing power because they had to keep doing it every day day after day after day.

Speaker 2:

Every day.

Speaker 1:

Every day. Was that in the podcast, or was it?

Speaker 2:

during the sermon that I mentioned. I think it was in the podcast. Is it Actually you mean in yours or in our past? I remember you talking about it.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, how every morning. I don't know if it was in the podcast.

Speaker 2:

I think it was. I think I was sitting here, anyways, yeah.

Speaker 1:

So yeah, every morning the priests, the Levitical priests, had to.

Speaker 2:

I think it was the best, make a sacrifice every day.

Speaker 1:

They had to make a sacrifice for their own sins before they could start making sacrifices for other people's sins. So is that blood, the blood of the animals, was truly able to cleanse? Why did they have to do that?

Speaker 2:

every day, every day Can you imagine getting up every day.

Speaker 1:

Can you imagine just getting up every day and just killing animals?

Speaker 2:

That's what I mean, can you imagine getting up and be like oh, it's time to get up, I got to slaughter another animal.

Speaker 1:

I mean, it'd be one thing if you were a butcher and you were processing animals, but I don't know, I just I don't, I couldn't imagine. No, I had another thought, I lost it, cool. So this whole correlation of our hearts being sprinkled clean from an evil conscience, that could refer to the fact of the blood, again, the blood of Christ, washing away our sins. But it could also mean baptism, because I think this last part definitely means baptism, which is in our bodies, washed with pure water. Oh, yeah. So if that's washing our bodies in pure water, that to me strongly symbolizes or represents baptism.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, and so it's. Either. Either way, it's going to be a cleansing of who we are, whether it's you look at it through the blood of Christ or through the baptism of Christ in water. They're both going to clean us in two different ways, although it's the same ultimate outcome, which is us being cleansed. But yeah, that's that's the big thing I wanted to cover there. So, again, I think this Hebrews 10, 19 through 22, just really, really again highlights and screams the fact. That's what I've been trying to cover. I think it's a good way to put a nice bill on it.

Speaker 2:

Yeah.

Speaker 1:

That Jesus is our high priest and it's through Jesus and through the baptism of the Holy Spirit that we can truly be clean cleansed so that we can approach God and the throne of grace through what Jesus has done for us. Did you even start to say that?

Speaker 2:

Yeah, and we're done. We got 13 seconds.

Speaker 1:

Okay so.

Speaker 2:

You got through that.

Speaker 1:

I did, so next week we will truly get back into verse six.

Speaker 2:

Yay.

Speaker 1:

And kind of look at this last part which is we drawing into God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him. So we're going to cover this whole idea of rewards for those who seek him. If you watched my last sermon, my second sermon, I kind of talked about churches of heaven a little bit. So this will kind of go in line with that a little bit.

Speaker 2:
